The Mission to Seafarers ( often called The
Flying Angel) is a world mission agency of the Anglican
Church. We care for the practical and spiritual welfare of seafarers of all
nationalities and faiths. As a global network of full-time and part-time
chaplains, staff and volunteers in some 300 ports, we visit seafarers on their
ships and give help and support in time of crisis, bereavement or in cases of
injustice.

We also run seafarers centres in over 100 ports, offering recreation and
telephone and email facilities. Wellington ( the capital city of New Zealand )
is one of these ports.
We believe that we are to be co-workers with
the God who calls us in the mission and evangelism among seafarers around the
world. Our ministry shall be holistic and clear in its integrity in:
-
Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ though witness and service without
resorting to proselytising.
-
Praying and offering appropriate ministries of worship, word and sacrament for
the nurture and support of all seafarers.
-
Promoting justice and welfare within the maritime industry.
-
Promoting a spiritual vision of the shared diginity of being human without
being exclusive.
-
Speaking prophetically without being triumphalist.
For this purpose we are called to be:
-
a gracious people.
-
baptised for service.
-
with world wide partners
-
conversing with other faiths.
-
and sufficiently holy to confront the ills of the maritime world.
